The Los Angeles Department of Aging is not a medical provider or first responders and does not provide emergency response services. This is solely for informational purposes only.

What Is Our Role?

When an emergency event happens, the Los Angeles Department of Aging will:

• Coordinate with various City Departments and our Multipurpose Senior Centers to facilitate emergency response and recovery.
• Assess how quickly we can restore our Centers’ programs and services
• Provide information and updates to designated emergency preparedness coordinators

Our Key Partners

We work with the Emergency Management Department and the Department on Disability to:

• Prove current resources and assess existing ones
• Maintain current community profile inventories
• Work together to facilitate emergency preparedness efforts, response, and recovery
• Plan specialized emergency response programs for home bound and frail adults
• Address identified gaps in services

What Should You Do To Prepare?

Step 1: Educate yourself on available resources.

• Visit the City of Los Angeles Emergency Management Department at https://emergency.lacity.gov/ to get updates, preparedness tips and additional resources.

• Visit the City of Los Angeles Department on Disability Emergency Preparedness Program at https://disability.lacity.gov/services/emergency-preparedness-program to help plan for emergencies for people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs.

Step 2: Form a Plan and prepare a Go-Kit.

A Go-Kit should be readily accessible, easy to carry, and can sustain you for at least seven days. Below is a list of recommended items to be used as a guideline. You may need to add items based on your unique needs and situation. Check your Kit every six months to make sure items are in working order and not expired.

• Water and Non-Perishable Food
• Medication for at least seven days
• Copies of important documents in re-sealable plastic bags
• Emergency Contact Phone Numbers
• Solar Blanket
• First Aid Kit
• Extra Eyeglasses
• Cash
• Photos of Family and Pets
• Flashlight
• Extra Clothes
• Toilet Paper and Sanitary Supplies
• Other items personalized to your needs
• Knowledge of evacuation site and/or safe location
